Every once in a while I find something so amazing, so interesting, and so well executed that I feel I must heap some praise! Well, Other then the new Batman move “The Dark Knight” being on the verge of being the highest grossing movie ever it was also the best movie I have seen so far this summer, but what was even more amazing to me was the online presence that was created just for this film. Sure, the movie had its homepage, but it was all of the other pages that dealt with the story, city, and characters that made it worth mention.

It started for me over a year and a half ago when I stumbled upon a pixilated website, half of which was the face of batman and half was this twisted and dark image of a clown. This page was developed long before any trailers were released. I even think it was created before they were done filming, and definitely long before the tragedy that befell Heath Ledger. The premise of the site was that for every email that signed in, a single pixel of the image of Batman would be removed to reveal the twisted image of the Joker below it, this was the first glimpse of the newest darker Joker. The trick was that there was no real promotion other then through fans. People would tell friends, and post on their blogs and forums creating buzz, links, and an email database all at the same time! Viral market as its finest, a true work of genius!

Time passed and I forgot about the page, but about four months before the movie release on April Fools Day, a friend sent me a link to this page
