How do you start a blog on SEO without going into all the gory details? I think the best way to start out is to explain what search is all about. Let’s be very clear, people don’t want to search… they want to find. Visitors who type in keywords or questions into their favorite search engine are looking for something… something very specific. They’re looking for information on products, to find out when the next iPhone will be available, who sang: “1-I wish I was little bit taller, I wish I was a baller, I wish I had a girl who looked good I would call her, I wish I had a rabbit in a hat with a bat, and a ‘64 Impala,” they’re looking for something very specific, and if they should happen upon your site, then you’ve got seven seconds to give them what they’re looking for, or they’re going to click the “Back” button and never come back.

So here’s my point. SEO begins at the beginning. From the very onset your Web site must be built around SEO. The content, the layout the design… these all must happen first. I get so many people asking me to help them get the site optimized, only to look at the site and realize that we’ve got to start from scratch. This is not an easy thing for a site owner to hear. It can be rather disheartening at times. So for this blog, I’m going to start at the beginning. I’m going to look at ways to structure the Web site both on the front end, and on the back end.
